Side Note specific to me:I configured iDRAC, adjusted some BIOS settings, ran both Dell bootable firmware update ISOs (new one didn't update iDRAC for some reason, so ran both), pulled the H700 out, threw the H200 in, ran OpenManage Essentials to clean up anything left.

If I have a Dell R510 + a Dell PERC H200 and intend to run FreeNAS, keep the controller in the Storage slot, and boot off USB.what do I need to do? Do I need to flash LSI's IT firmware? Do I just need to upgrade to the latest Dell IR firmware and be sure not to use RAID? I've found conflicting answers, date ranging over the last helf-decade or so, and other people asking the same question in an Archived thread and no clear answer. What I can't quite seem to narrow down is what I actually should be doing properly here. I just purchased 2x Dell R510s with H700 cards and am replacing them with H200s for FreeNAS. Open Manage isn't happy with it, and wants to "Update", but I'm guessing that's expected, haha. Board name didn't change from PERC H200A for me, but all appears good thus far. sas2flsh.exe -c 0 -list = Verified SAS Address and everything looks good.Shutdown, moved Dell H200 to Storage Slot, powered back on.cd to Extracted Dell Firmware folder from Dell's Website.sas2flsh.exe -o -b h200i.rom -f h200i.fw = I could not flash BIOS with what u/mashutetra included.Change to proper drive letter, cd LSI firmware folder.Shutdown for 30 seconds, powered back on.sas2flsh.exe -c 0 -list = Taking note of the SAS Address.Change to proper drive letter, cd to LSI firmware folder.Extracted Dell Firmware and LSI firmware into folders in FreeDOS iso.fw and u/mashutetra to make sure it was legit Downloaded firmware and sas2flash bundles from u/mashutetra here:.Referenced from u/JacksonWrath, u/mashutetra and u/4e4f5045.

Here is what I did, hopefully it wasn't wrong. Whether or not I did it right is still up in the air. r/HomeNetworking - Simpler networking advice.īased on feedback, I went forward with flashing IT firmware. r/pfsense - for all things pfsense ('nix firewall) Might be able to find things useful for a lab. r/hardwareswap - Used hardware, swap hardware.
